Cinema and Knowledge

CINENOVA, the first Interuniversity Film Festival in Portugal, is an initiative of NOVA-FCSH and its focus is the relationship between Cinema and Knowledge. Organized by university students and professors, CINENOVA addresses all students of higher education, from any level and area of study. The 2nd edition of the Festival will take place between March 5 and 7, 2020.

2020 Edition

In 2019, we brought the Idea to life with a first experimental edition. We received short films from all over the world and we organized a Masterclass with the portuguese filmmaker Susana Sousa Dias and José Manuel Costa, director of the Portuguese Cinemateca, and a CINENight.

In 2020, we propose to fully fulfill our Mission. CINENOVA 2020 received films from Student-Filmmakers from 77 countries and the number of short films for this edition more than quadrupled in relation to 2019, the festival's debut year.

Mision

To deepen the relationship between Cinema and Knowledge, between the Student-Filmmaker and the University.

Goals

Streamline cinematographic production in university context in Portugal;
To create new opportunities for film viewing and projection for all students who see Cinema as a fundamental medium for elaborating the great problematics of the contemporary world;
To encourage cinematographic creation and debate around the Cinema-Knowledge-Science relationship.

Contest Regulations

Submissions of short films to the competition for the 2nd edition of CINENOVA ended on January 1, 2020.
